About the Author
Fran Hast and Ann Hollyfield met at the Palo Alto Infant-Toddler Center in Palo Alto, CA. The center is part of Palo Alto Community Child Care, a private, non-profit organization that provides funds and subsidies to 15 child care programs throughout the city. In their roles as Teaching Director and Head Teacher, Hast and Hollyfield hope to share their belief in the joy of caring interactions with infant and toddlers. Fran Hast has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Miami in Ohio. Ann Hollyfield has a B.S. in Elementary Education from the Oregon College of Education.

The special joy of caring for infants and toddlers is the chance to experience the world through their eyes. As caregivers who work with very young children, we are continually reminded what its like not to take the world for grantedand not to assume we know how things work or whats going to happen next. We know infants and toddlers are learners in their own right, and they in turn continually teach us.

Based around activities appropriate for babies and toddlers written by founders of a childcare center in Palo Alto, CA.
There is an emphasis on helping very young children resolve conflict and facilitating their physical and cognitive development. Illustrative of the wisdom of this text are the sections of Chapter 2: Being with Babies: Strategies for Caring for Infants and Toddlers. These include Anticipating Transitions, Unusual Events and Changes in Routine; Helping Children Articulate Their Needs and Wants; Offering Real Choices; Setting Consistent Limits.
While geared to those working in childcare centers, the book might interest parents as well.
