The Modern Standard Arabic Language
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), also known as Standard Arabic or Literary Arabic, is the variety of Arabic used in writing and in formal speech. MSA is spoken by an estimated 300 million people world-wide. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Modern Standard Arabic is the official language of all Arab countries, and is the only form of Arabic taught in schools at all levels. Because of this, MSA is the lingua franca of all educated Arabic-speakers, regardless of nationality or spoken native dialect. It is used in the news, schools, official documents, and courts of law. Dr. Paul Pimsleur devoted his life to language teaching and testing and was one of the world’s leading experts in applied linguistics. After years of experience and research, Dr. Pimsleur developed The Pimsleur Method based on two key principles: the Principle of Anticipation and a scientific principle of memory training that he called “Graduated Interval Recall.” This Method has been applied to the many levels and languages of the Pimsleur Programs.

This is a very well done introduction to conversational Arabic. The pattern of repetition and method of breaking down words has made it possible to gain rapid familiarity with a useful basic vocabulary. I have used Pimsleur before with another language and certainly will again.

Well I just love Pimsleur

I'm an interpreter (Spanish, Hebrew, English) and I've wanted to study more languages. First I bought Pimsleur French - loved it. Now Arabic, same thing. It is just GOOD. You learn, you talk. It's perfect.

Excellent introduction to Arabic. Easy to follow and the method seems to really "cement" what you are learning into your brain! We bought a few other methods that didn't seem to really help.
