She is also the chairperson of ASCA (Adults Surviving Child Abuse), a national Australian organisation that works with the devastating long-term impacts of child abuse. "Dr. Kezelman's book is both an inspirational story and a wonderful resource for survivors, friends of survivors and health professionals. In it she documents the most challenging journey of coming to terms with the effects of a traumatic childhood and moving beyond it to a life of hope and health. It not only provides information that is useful for understanding how a survivor survives their abuse but also the process necessary in the journey of healing."

Survivor's Inspiration

Having lived for 18 months with recovered memories of child sexual abuse myself, this book is a courageous personal story of living with and recovering from the trauma and effects of child sexual abuse.
The account resonates with me on many levels. Above all, I valued the descriptions of the processes of remembering and discovering - that long, fraught, strange, hazardous path. And the utter importance of a skilled and sensitive therapist who accompanied Cathy on that journey.
My history bears similarities to the author's - the details don't matter - but reading this book helped me feel sane and hopeful. It is deeply reassuring to see that a similar person has gone through such trauma and managed to persist,battle and succeed in discovering herself. Cathy's story helps me understand some of the how and what of survival and healing because it is a complete narrative. The sheer hard messy slog is something that isn't conveyed in many other books on the recovery process.
I am deeply grateful for Cathy's commitment to sharing her intensely personal journey and also for her public advocacy work in ASCA. Cathy has opened up my world.
